my daughter and 2 sons. thankfully my oldest doesnt want to be a baptized witness and he is 16 so he understands the mind control and is planning college as his escape. my little ones are the reason i put up with my uber jw wife.

For those still in- why do you (really) stay, and what would it take for you to leave the org?
by serenitynow! infor the so-called conscious class, those of you who know it's all a disgusting lie, what is the real reason you stay in?
i find it hard to understand how ones who know what the org truly is would continue to be an active jw.
i'm not talking about the "faders"- those with an actual plan to get out as painlessly as possible.

Demons and the WTS
by brotherdan ini remember growing up and hearing all sorts of stories about demonic activity from people.
some would be experiences that people had going door to door and visiting a "witch" or "warlock".
some would inadvertently go to a fortune tellers door and have a demonic experience.. i was always facinated by all the stories.

i was around 13 and my brother was 9 we stayed in this house that one of my mothers friends was a caretaker. this was a huge house in newport ri on a road filled with mansions from the 1800's. The place was called ivy towers and my mom and her friend left us and her daughter there, mind you we have never spent any time at this place. it was full of rooms with really old pictures and gothic paintings really erie stuff. anyway in the evening this girl and i are upstairs playing a board game in her room when i hear my brother running up the stairs yelling " jehovah, jehovah save me" he runs into the room crying visably shaken and proceeds to tell me when he went down stairs to use the bathroom you walk by this old picture of an elderly woman at the first stair. he explains that as he walked by he watched this picture and the woman in it was staring at him and no matter where he moved her eyes followed him. he also said it had a blue aura around it. being the big brother i had to check it out and although there was no blue light the eyes did follow you they seemed to move from left to right, however the portrait was encased in convex glass which gave that moving eye look. my point is although i have never had a feeling that demons were out to get me( i enjoyed playing capture in graveyards) my jw mother would parrot any foolish story to us kids that she was told , possessed smurf dolls, flying ouija boards, etc. it terrified my poor brother and i think maybe that can shape our perception of the supernatural.

black sheep having been duped for years it feels good to see all the lies, its kind of a cleansing process for me. i realize a dubs lights shut off as soon logic enters the converssation this is more for me right now.

What's wrong with my friends?
by Alan_56 ini really can't stand it when i can't go to someones house just because they are "worldy".
why can't i just be a normal teenager and be able to choose my friends whom ever they may be?
i told my mom i don't have any witness friends then she told me "well you better find some or else your gonna have some serious problems".

hang in there alan your parents believe they are looking out for your best interest. would they allow you to have someone non jw over to meet them? if they feel they are supervising you maybe they would allow it. it might help them understand non jw kids are not the plague.
there is nothing wrong with your friends.

Those Who Follow the Beast
by cameo-d ingiven the warnings that "those who follow the beast" go into destruction....why would anyone follow the beast unless they thought they had no choice, or unless there was some gain to be had personally?.
could it be because many are misled into believing the beast is their salvation in some way?.
why would they cling to the scarlet robe of the harlot?.

Out and feeling lost, with no friends? Have faith! (my uplifting experience :D)
by teel inmaybe not many of you remember my anguish through the last year since i joined jwn.
in the meantime i lost my wife (the official divorce is due in ~two weeks), lost all my friends (thank god no family though, except the wife), battled the wts and sort-of lost.
just like most of you when you got through this experience i was lost and confused, coult not found my place in life.. i owe much gratitude to this board for giving me the much needed information and support that i am not alone, and what i'm feeling is not something unusual.

by Evidently Apostate insince my awakening i will sometimes write in a notebook it actually helps with the emotions.
anyway this was from the other day.. i had the chance to read the story of the samaritan man to my 2 little ones last night.
i have lost much of my desire to read any scriptures lately as i almost feel they are all tainted but i know my wife wants me to read to them tonight so my 9 yo girl picks the samaritan man story from the bible story book.

I had the chance to read the story of the samaritan man to my 2 little ones last night. i have lost much of my desire to read any scriptures lately as i almost feel they are all tainted but i know my wife wants me to read to them tonight so my 9 yo girl picks the samaritan man story from the bible story book. i didnt read it verbatum as this would bore them quickly so i told the story the way my kids enjoy it and afterward kissed them both goodnight. i had read them a few other stories but that one brought up a moral question so i searched online to find out who the samartans really were. (be warned the facts i write may not be perfectly accurate as far as dates and a few minor details anyway you can do your own research if so inclined)they were isrealites who descended from the tribes of ephriam and manassah they were isrealites. they were brought in as settlers to the land of cannan by the assyrians, they belived in thier own gods thus considered non jews by the hebrews and were not allowed to help rebuild the temple after the jewish release from babylonion captivity. in the second century antiochus epiphanies declared himself a diety and sought worship for himself declaring death to any who refused the samaritans repudiated all connection with the jews and conceded to the greeks mainly to avoid the death penalty. the jews were attacked for thier refusal to worship anyone other than yahweh. by the first century the jews hated the samaritans and looked at them as loathsome creatures as the bible shows in some verses. Jesus illustration showed that even though religoius beliefs were different and there was a negative view of samaritans it was not a jewish leader (elder) or even a high ranking jew(someone who might have even interpereted scrolls like the GB) who came to the (former jew)samaritan mans aid ( there was a class distinction in the two holy men in the bible btw). it was a regular jew that helped his religious enemy thus showing the love and kndness Jesus wanted us to display to ALL.
what a difference in teaching from jesus to the dogmatic way we are commanded to treat those of different beliefs and those who at onetime were called brothers but now have a differernt belief. i had to ask myself which viewpoint do i want to impress on the minds of my impressonable young children?
